Every summer, Blades Down CIC delivers free, accessible Summer Safety Sessions designed to keep young people safe, informed and empowered during the school holidays.
Â
These sessions are built around real community need and are delivered in a way that is engaging, age appropriate and rooted in lived experience.
Our summer work is about more than activities. It is about prevention, education and creating safer spaces at a time when risks around youth violence and antisocial behaviour often increase.
Â
Who We Work With
Our Summer Safety Sessions are delivered in partnership with Go First Training – A Local first aid training company and Protect Krav Maga Wirral – A self defence school.Â
Together we work together to create a safe and educational session for all.Â
We believe safeguarding young people is a shared responsibility and our approach is always collaborative.
Â
Why Summer Matters
The summer holidays can be a high risk period for young people. Reduced structure, increased time in public spaces and limited access to support can leave some young people vulnerable. Our sessions aim to bridge that gap by offering consistency, guidance and practical life skills when they are needed most.
What Our Sessions Include
Â
First Aid Saves Futures
Our Summer Safety Sessions teach young people essential first aid skills that could one day save a life. From responding to bleeding and trauma to knowing how and when to call for help, these sessions give young people confidence to act in an emergency.
During our 2025 summer programmes:
Over 120 young people were taught basic first aid skills
Young people learned how to stay calm, protect themselves and support others until help arrives
These sessions directly support our national campaign calling for first aid education to be a standard part of the secondary school curriculum.
Â
Knife Crime Awareness and Prevention
We deliver honest, hard hitting but supportive conversations around knife crime. These sessions focus on:
Understanding the real consequences of carrying a knife
Making safer choices and recognising risky situations
Practical self defence awareness without glorifying violence
Over 120 young people took part in our knife crime self defence and awareness sessions, delivered in a way that centres safety, respect and accountability.
Â
Positive Activities and Safe Spaces
Alongside education, our summer sessions provide positive alternatives and safe spaces for young people to connect. Through our Summer Clubs and outreach days, young people are given opportunities to build confidence, friendships and trust with adults who genuinely care.
Dates for our 2026 Summer Sessions will be announced in May 2026
